Yasir Alfarag

Yasir is an Associate Planner with expertise in land use planning, policy analysis, and community engagement. His many interests in planning include affordable housing, open space access, and nonmotorized transportation. Yasir is motivated by the interdisciplinary nature of urban planning and the prospect of bringing people from all walks of life together to participate in the planning process. He believes that listening to resident voices is key to creating healthier, happier, and more fulfilled communities. 

He earned a Master in Urban Planning from the University of Washington, where he also completed a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a Minor in Urban Design and Planning.

Born in Baghdad, Yasir spent his teenage years in Damascus and Amman, and moved to Seattle in 2017. He feels at home in Seattle. Outside of work, Yasir has many hobbies. He loves to cook new and creative meals, bike to new neighborhoods, and travel to new cities. He loves visiting farmer’s markets, eating delicious baked goods (cardamom knot at Saint Bread is a favorite), and strolling through the city’s neighborhoods. Recently, Yasir has begun growing vegetables to use in his dishes.
